「東京北社会保険病院」は、病院と老人保健施設の複合施設であり、「Healing Landscape」をテーマに、「遺伝子」「精神」「肉体」の3つのレベルで治癒効果を高めうるデザインを意図した。

本プロジェクトは、旧国立王子病院跡地に建設されたため、大径木が多く存在したほか、斜面林が多く残された袋町公園が隣接したため、大径木を保全した駐車場や外周緑地、袋町公園と連続した遊歩道、袋町公園の斜面林を背景とする芝生広場などの整備により、当初より緑の質・量が充実した、成熟度の高いランドスケープを実現することができた。

また、病棟の屋上にも芝生広場やハーブガーデンから構成される屋上庭園を整備し、園芸療法も可能な設えとして、患者が緑にふれる機会を増やすことを可能にした。

Tokyo-Kita Social Insurance Hospital is a complex of a general hospital and a healthcare facility for the elderly.

Considering that inpatients are much more vulnerable than ordinary people, and that the scenery we see in the end of our life is that through a window of a hospital, D+M tried to change traditional exterior spaces of hospitals, which were quite functional and often dominated by automobiles.

D+M set a design concept, “Healing Landscape”, and proposed various open spaces to enhance healing effect at 3 levels, that is, “Genetic”, “Mental”, and “Physical”.

For example, lush greenery is visually pleasant so that it could make inpatients feel genetically pleasant. A horticultural garden would promote social interactions so that it could make them feel mentally pleasant. Brick paths with shades and benches would promote walking so that it could make them feel physically pleasant.

With this in mind, D+M first secured views to lush greenery utilizing the existing trees and the dense forest of adjacent “Fukuromachi-park”. D+M then designed a lawn and a herb garden on the roof top where inpatients can meet their family and friends outside or experience horticultural therapy. Finally several brick paths were designed with ample trellises, shade trees and benches connecting the hospital and park.

由于该项目建在旧国立王子医院旧址上，因此存在许多大径木，并且邻近保留了许多斜坡林的袋町公园。通过保留大径木来建设停车场和外周绿地，以及设置与袋町公园相连的步道和以其斜坡林为背景的草坪广场，实现了从一开始就拥有高质量和数量的绿色、成熟的景观。

此外，在病房屋顶还设置了由草坪广场和草药园组成的屋顶花园，使患者能够接触绿色，并提供园艺疗法的可能性。
